Moira Farnham offers a full range of garden design, consultancy and project monitoring services. She has worked on almost every conceivable type of garden, from small courtyards and rooftop terraces to large, elaborate country gardens. Sometimes she will tackle just one part of a garden and the project is successfully completed in a few weeks. At the other end of the spectrum, she has consulted on a number of major schemes, covering several acres and lasting many years.
Moira's services cover every aspect of garden design: from a one-off trouble-shooting visit to the preparation of full outline plans, construction details and planting schemes. She will also manage the tendering and monitor the construction phases, producing detailed specifications and co-ordinating the work of the construction team. Contractors are always hand-picked from an extensive range known personally to Moira, ensuring that they have precisely the right skills to implement the design properly. And after the project has been completed, Moira is frequently asked by clients to return to advise them on issues such as long term maintenance and the on-going development of the garden.
"It's all about relationships and a golden rule for me is that every project I undertake receives my personal attention throughout. Getting to know a client is crucial because only then can I design something that will enhance their lives and be appropriate to their needs. Clients also trust me to ensure that their garden is built by competent people, charging a competitive price. Part of my job is to take the stress out of the situation: creating a new garden should be an exciting and pleasurable experience for the client."

As a very rough guide, the price to design an average-sized suburban garden is likely to fall in the range of £1500 - £2500. Additionally, the cost of managing the construction of the garden might be in the range of £3000 -£4500. Either way, for a house valued at, say, £450,000, this represents a value of about 1%. Details of the way costs are calculated are shown below.
Charges for visits are based on time spent on site, mileage incurred and travelling time. However, for visits within a 30 mile radius of Camberley, Surrey, there are no charges for mileage or travel time.

The first visit offers the chance for client and designer to meet and discuss the project in depth. I will assess the site and get a clear picture of what you want from the garden. This first meeting normally lasts a couple of hours, after which I will set out, in writing, my proposal for your new garden based on our meeting and give you a firm quotation in writing for all the design work discussed. There is a charge of £175.00 for this visit but this cost is offset against any commissioned design work, so that it becomes free to all clients who decide to proceed.
Every project is different and it is not possible or useful to offer estimates over the telephone. However a firm quotation in writing is always supplied after the first visit. Full details of the terms and conditions is sent to all new clients.
Once the design has been approved and the contractors are appointed, I am able to monitor the construction of the project on your behalf. This is a valuable service for more complex projects, or when work needs to be dovetailed with other major works on site. It is also helpful for clients who are just too busy to manage the process themselves. In all such cases, a sliding scale operates.

12% of the first £10,000 of the value of the work. 9% of the remainder.
Payments are made in line with those to contractors.
The processing of reference photographs and the printing of plans and other documents are charged at cost, plus a small handling fee.

All prices stated above are exclusive
