Garden No 6: Romantic walled garden Hampshire

Romantic walled garden Hampshire - Large

Set in a lightly-wooded location, not far from Fleet town centre this wide but rather shallow garden was a boring empty space: a tired depleted lawn, surrounded by drab high conifer hedges. The new design includes a romantic walled garden with herbs, roses, iris and lavender and, as the central device, a Victorian statue of a child holding a bird bath. A small water feature with two terracotta pots draws the eye down to ground level and then beyond to a pretty painted summerhouse. This helps to reduce the dominance of the high hedges. A large terrace with pergola provides an excellent dining area, further defined by low brick walls which offer extra, casual seating for social occasions.
